Vermouth is a fortified, aromatic wine, which when added to cocktails, reduces the alcohol content of a strong alcoholic beverage such as whiskey, vodka or gin, thus offering the possibility of better appreciation of the aromatic and flavor nuances.
Vermouth, dry or sweet, can be enjoyed on the rocks or neat, as an aperitif. The sweet one is drunk with a little more ice. With soda or tonic and a slice of orange or lime, it takes on a different, distinct flavor.
